Welcome to Cops Caught On Video
We do not “hate cops in fact we respect those honest cops as you have one of the toughest jobs on the planet but with that being said” We believe that no one – not even those with badges – has extra rights especially civil servants who are paid to protect us. The failure to realize and act on that is to our detriment. By focusing the disinfecting light of transparency on public officials we safeguard not just our rights but those of future generations.
This website is created in the honor of ONE Southgate Michigan Officer (Michael Gratz) as my arrest and long court dates where the video tape (or what they Southgate Police decided what portion of the video tape to give after 2 court orders) and their court actions clearly shows my rights being violated. The only way we can hold civil servants accountable is to put videos online so everyone can see how these so called officers who have sworn to a oath to serve and protect us. This site will also provide info/links/articles/videos on how you can protect yourself from over zealous and uneducated cops. If you do you not now your rights they will violate them. their are not here to protect your rights as they are suppose to, their are here to lie, deceive and violate your rights and take your money.
I am presently on a path to bring the Michigan law to a Federal First Amendment test. That is my goal. It is my duty to do this. It is a great risk in the State of Michigan. They are making me their test case to apply this law widely in Michigan to prevent its citizens from critiquing their police or prosecutors with threats to its citizens about posting factual information online.
Cops Caught On Video is a decentralized project supported by a diverse group of individuals united by their shared goal of police accountability.
When you think about it, this is a line between freedom and tyranny because if you can’t gather information to back up your story in court and the policeman has more credibility in the court’s eyes, the policeman can lie with comfort and you can not prove them wrong as with my case I clearly have the evidence of NO wrong doing and still get prosecuted.
Thankfully, the First Amendment guarantees us all Freedom of the Press, meaning we have as much as right to to report on and disseminate the news as professional journalists, even if we’ve never set foot in a newsroom. In fact, it’s absolutely crucial that we step up to fill the void left by the mainstream media.
And we can begin doing that by recording police when they interact with the public, including our very own interactions such as traffic stops. The goal is to not just record possible instances of police abuse, but to remind these officers that we are well aware of our rights to record them in public where they have no expectation of privacy (as they do to us).
After all, it is very clear that many of them don’t know we have that right or most likely would like to convince us we don’t have that right, even though numerous court decisions state otherwise, including the landmark Glik vs Boston decision that specifically stated that Freedom of the Press was guaranteed to all citizens.
